Kia announced the production version of the EV5, a futuristic-looking all-electric compact SUV that will go on sale in China later this year and in the United States in 2024. Few details are available, including range and price, so the EV5 isn't even in our upcoming vehicles tracker quite yet.
The EV5 is boxy looking, like a shrunk down EV9 (the larger 7-seater upcoming Kia all-electric SUV). The design looks like a concept car brought to life - nice looking but probably not for everyone.
The EV5 is based on the same platform as the Kia EV6, and it shares many of the same features, including a spacious interior, a long driving range, and fast charging capabilities. However, the EV5 is slightly smaller than the EV6.
The EV5 will be available in two powertrain configurations: a single-motor rear-wheel drive version and a dual-motor all-wheel drive version. The EV5 will be powered by a 77.4-kWh battery pack, which supports DC fast-charging.
The interior of the EV5 is stylish and modern, with a minimalist design and high-quality materials. The EV5 also comes standard with a suite of advanced safety features, including automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and blind spot monitoring.
Kia says they plan to release more details (hopefully US pricing and availability) at an October event.
